2019 Design Trends That Wow

2019 brings us fresh and exciting design ideas. Reinvigorate your home with updates sure to WOW.

Here are some of our favorites.

Dark Colors.
This is the year of color…the bolder, the better. Dark shades like navy, green and black are showing up in almost a rebellion of sorts to all the whites, grays and lighter colors. Make a bold statement with balance in mind. If you paint the ceiling and walls a dark color, have a lighter floor and décor to soften the space.
Black is popping up everywhere. Wall and ceiling color for sure, but kitchen cabinetry including range hoods are now going black. Again, balance is key when deciding to use this dark color. Too much and you’re in a dungeon, too little and what’s the point? Pair black with light wood tones, light-colored quartz countertops and backsplashes in the kitchen to add an elegant and luxurious appearance to your space.

Quartz Countertops.
Engineered quartz was finally crowned the most popular countertop material in 2018 following a three-year decline in granite, according to Houzz research. It’s no wonder when you consider quartz’s durability. Made of natural stone and resin material, quartz looks like the higher priced (and more upkeep) materials such as slate and marble. Quartz comes in a wide variety of colors with both matte and gloss finishes.

Kitchen Countertop Cabinets.
Another design trend that adds quick, ease-of-use opportunity are countertop cabinets. Incorporate a tall cabinet with bottom drawer into a corner space. It fills the corner offering plenty of storage while adding visual interest in the overall kitchen design.

Tile as a Feature Wall.
Most kitchens today are open to the gathering space, leaving the kitchen exposed. Add a stunning focal point by taking a beautiful tile up the full length of a kitchen wall. It becomes a feature of the kitchen and brings in the WOW factor. Choose a tile that adds shimmer and texture like a simple subway tile to a tile that is bold and patterned like a Moroccan tile. No matter the tile choice, your kitchen will look fresh and inviting.

Speaking of subway tile…the new trend uses larger format tiles like stacked, chevron or herringbone patterns. These shapes are edgy with a crisp look and are not huge design risks. The best part…grout lines tend to be thinner so less noticeable.

Electrifying Fireplaces.
Bring your bathroom from boring to spa-like with an electric fireplace. Luxuriate in your bathtub with the warmth and glow of this affordable and fairly easy-to-install design trend. If you do not have the space in your bathroom, install one in your living space or master bedroom. A great way to add design interest without breaking the bank.

Bathroom Floors Moroccan-Style.
A new trend in floors brings the bold style of Moroccan-patterned tile to the bathroom. Moroccan tile typically is used for fireplace surrounds, kitchen backsplashes and feature walls. It is now showing up on bathroom floors, adding interest and intrigue. Give your bathroom floor a new look with the many Moroccan patterns available…it’s fresh, clean and perfect for today’s bathroom spaces.

Mixed Mediums.
A sea change is occurring in lifestyles towards more livable spaces. Going by the wayside is the mid-century modern furniture craze making way for furniture that is soft, comfortable and says, “Come relax.” Designers and homeowners alike are embracing this trend by mixing various fabrics and patterns for a generous collection of textures and sheens.

Walls of Wood.
Create a wall feature of wood that adds warmth and texture to your space. A little known secret is to use Luxury Vinyl Plank that looks like wood. It’s less expensive, easy to install and gives a real wood appearance.

Banquettes are Back.
Bring in the charm with a banquette around your dining table. A banquette is inviting adding warmth and comfort to the space. It’s a design piece in itself and draws in a crowd. Some banquettes lend themselves to storage…tuck a few baskets underneath to hold frequently used items like games, toys or extra plates, napkins and service ware.

Choose one or several of these 2019 trends to add WOW in your home. These trends give you the latitude to be a bit adventurous when it comes to updating the look and feel of your home. There is no time like the present, so what are you waiting for? Start your design project today!
